3. Mashup of the week: Sweet Home Alabama and Country Grammar October 29, 2006

Mashup: great idea. Definition (from wikipedia): a musical genre of songs that consist entirely of parts of other songs.
To me, this an example of synergy (hit the play button):
Sweet Home Alabama, by Lynyrd Skynyrd, + Country Grammar, by Nelly.

where do you find these things? you’ve always been a channel into future trends. i remember back in ‘97 you were telling me to stop collecting compact discs because they would soon fall obsolete to music files stored in portable mini hard-drives. i countered you by saying that civilization would collapse within 8 years and at least with CDs i would be able to enjoy the cover art during daylight hours. maybe there is hope…
i don’t remember that, but i do remember convincing you to return your sony mini-disk player. and i do miss the feel and experience of opening up a cd sleeve to admire the art and read the lyrics and contents. perhaps soon, the next iPod will project the album art and mini documentaries on the wall, which would be almost as good.
mashups can be found lots of places online, but stream them at Odeo.com (search for “mashups”). i actually found this cache via a wordpress FAQ.
i had that mini-disc player for a week. what a great idea that just didn’t take off…it was so cool but it gave me headaches for some reason. now i’m starting to realize it was the nagging voice inside my head you implanted saying that it wasn’t worth the half a grand of further debt to listen to Natalie Imbruglia without any skipping. returning it was the hardest thing i ever had to do. i was…torn.
