372. Idea TV: Everyday Edisons July 12, 2007

Granted, I will be featured on Season 2 of Everyday Edisons (lots more about my story here). Regardless, it incidentally happens to be the best show on US TV having to do with inventing (I haven’t posted anything on American Inventor, which so far is focused on embarrassing people for laughs, with very mediocre inventions being showcased). EE is being broadcasted on most US PBS stations, but they now have a channel on Youtube (check it out HERE). Below is part 1 (of 4) of the Season 1a Recap (about 10 min), for those interested.

As some of you may know, I auditioned for season 2 of Everyday Edisons, the invention show on PBS. I am currently in the final 25 spots, waiting to find out it if I made it to the top 12 for Season 2 of the show (I will know May 6th). If you want to know more about my journey, start HERE.
The premiere of Season 1 will be this Saturday on PBS.
To learn about Everyday Edisons, go HERE. To check your local PBS listings to see if and when it is being broadcast in your area, go HERE. I also hope to be posting a summary of the episode for Americaninventorspot.com in the next few days. So stay tuned! It should be a great show.

187. Bright Idea: IChannel on Youtube February 28, 2007

I came across this brilliant work: an interactive, metafictional video blog series. There are 10 videos thus far, each averaging 5 minutes in length. Check out the first one below. Subsequent episodes are guided by, and incorporate, viewers comments (they are the text in quotes). Professionally acted, well-produced, existentially engaging, and ingeniously conceived. So inspiring, in fact, that my next video will be a video response to episode 11.
Episode 1, below, is 5 minutes long. Mild patience recommended: this is not an action flick.

160. Idea TV: Super Bowl Commercials February 7, 2007

For those of you who may have missed the Super Bowl, here are a few of the better commercials (at $2.5 million per 30 seconds). Still, overall, it was a pretty mediocre showing.
1. Snickers: Mechanics Kiss (This site was removed from the Snickers’ website because it was deemed homophobic. I actually think it is poking fun at homophobia).

149. Bright Idea: Super Bowl Prop Bets and Savefile January 30, 2007

Are you dragging someone to a Super Bowl Party who is more interested in the commercials? Here is a way to make the experience more exciting for all: Super Bowl Prop Bets. Bet on everything, from the coin toss to the number of punts in the game. Unless you are a Colts fan or from Chicago, this could make this American pastime even more engaging for everyone.
Thanks to Scott for introducing me to this, and allowing me to publish the betting list he composed. We are doing $10 per entry, with winner take all.
You can download the list HERE. It is a Word document that I put online via Savefile.com, a free web hosting service (I didn’t even have to register).

I saw an inspired TV show for the first time tonight: Ninja Warrior on G4TV. This Japanese show has people attempting to complete intense and creative obstacle courses. Each section of the course is a novel idea of a challenge. Below is a 2:08 minute clip of Stage One.

128. Idea TV: CES Roundup January 16, 2007

The best thing I got out of watching G4TV’s coverage of the 2007 CES was being introduced to the beautiful and witty Olivia Munn (I think she is half-Vietnamese, based on the fact that her mother in this clip sounds a lot like mine). Other than her, only two other things caught my eye:
1) Novint’s Falcon Gaming Mouse, which has force feedback (you can feel the shot’s being fired). However, it looks like your arm would get tired pretty quickly (since you hand is not resting on anything). They should make a version that has an actual pistol grip and trigger:
2) The Gaming Chair. This is a similar idea (force-feedback) but the $15,000 price tag is prohibitive. You only a need a few seconds of this video to get the idea:
