Some time ago, I posted on a similar item, a hidden magnetic key safe (Post #117), which is perfect for my condo building. But today, I encountered this all-metal Key Safe, which is better for a home. Never be locked out again. Since you can change the combination whenever you like, this is also great for contractors and guests. Buy it HERE ($40).

Background: Because the DC weather was nice today, I walked with a friend to her house to walk her dogs during lunch break, but she forgot her keys back at the office. Luckily, she had installed this handy safe. I personally look forward to getting one once I move into a house.

We use these in our datacenter for the cabinets. It’s handy because you can leave the keys there and anyone who needs access to the cabinet can just use the combination to get the keys out. They’re handy little things 🙂

What’s it made of? Looks like the base is plastic. (Just wondering how easy it would be for someone to break open?)

I cant speak for the ones in the photos, ours the same size and look the same except they’re all black. They’re some type of metal, I’m not sure about the specifics. We keep ours indoors on the cabinets and everything is video monitored so I doubt anyone would try to get it open.

It wouldn’t come open easily anyways 🙂

Kristin: thanks for your comments! Nice example. And yes, there is a black one.

Photo: thanks, as well. They are all metal (the base is cast zinc alloy).
