449. Bright Idea: Polar Pitcher August 18, 2007

My friend came across a version of the Polar Pitcher while at Comic-Con. Add ice (and a little water for maximum effect) to your Polar Pitcher to chill your brew without diluting it. Granted, volume for beer is lost, but hopefully the bar that uses these pitchers will take that into account when pricing. If you use kegs at home, buy it HERE.

This is a much better implementation of what the plastic ice cube people were trying to do. Remember those? They were colorful plastic, the size and shape of ice cubes, and filled with that gel that comes in ice packs. Once frozen, they could be added to a drink without diluting it (as melting ice does). They were also reusable. Our problem was always dumping them down the garbage disposal like we did with regular ice. That and washing them after each use in a strong-tasting liquid. Great idea in theory, but I think the Polar Pitcher is a better way to make it happen.

Luke, I do remember those, thought they were a good idea, but never bought any. It didn’t seem too cool (bonk) to have colored plastic cubes in my beer, I guess.
